Inside an NIH Study Section – from the Perspective of Reviewers

Event Description:
A presentation and discussion about how NIH grants are reviewed and what you can do to encourage a positive review outcome will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the AMU 305. The presentation will be moderated by Dr. Sandra Hunter, Research and Innovation Faculty Fellow. 

Panelists include:  

Dr. Allison Hyngstrom, Physical Therapy  
Dr. James Kincaid, Chemistry 
 Dr. John Mantsch, Biomedical Sciences  
Dr. Brian Schmit, Biomedical Engineering  
Topics discussed include what happens at an NIH Study Section panel meeting, how reviewers interact during a meeting, common features/characteristics of a well-scored grant and common features/characteristics of a poorly-scored grant. There will also be time for questions from the attendees.  

This session is the third in a series of presentations relating to NIH funding, and is broadly applicable to all research. To attend, RSVP to Sherrie Dorff by Tuesday, Dec. 4. Space is limited.
