Faculty reading group
Start Date: 2/13/2018Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 2/13/2018End Time: 1:30 PM

Event Description:
The Center for Teaching and Learning will begin their faculty reading group on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from noon to 1:15 p.m. The group will read “Small Teaching” by James Lang.

Research into how we learn has opened the door for utilizing cognitive theory to facilitate better student learning. But that's easier said than done. Many books about cognitive theory introduce radical but impractical theories, failing to make the connection to the classroom. In “Small Teaching,” James Lang presents a strategy for improving student learning with a series of modest but powerful changes that make a big difference—many of which can be put into practice in a single class period.

Additional meetings will be held:
Tuesday, Feb. 27, from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday, April 3, from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday April 17, from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Tuesday, May 1, from noon to 1:15 p.m.

The location is to be determined. Contact Amber Young-Brice, clinical assistant professor in the College of Nursing, if you’d like participate by Saturday, Feb. 10. All those that participate will get a copy of the book.
